The One Metre Initiative Visitor Centre
Integrated into The One Metre Initiative facility is a fully
featured visitor Centre. The Visitor Centre will host a variety
of features including a large telescope where lectures will be
given under the stars in the summertime. A large high definition
display will showcase the latest spectacular images from the OMI.
There will be a planetarium (phase 2) were star shows are given
and where astronomers are invited to give lectures about the latest
discoveries and speak about the research conducted at the One
Metre Initiative. Guided tours of the most powerful telescope
in Canada will be offered. Both the OMI and the Visitor Centre
will be solar powered. In addition the facility will have sufficient
space to host a major star festival with its related amenities,
such as a large covered shelter, washroom facilities, showers,

The conceptualized layout shows the clearing around the OMI and
tourist facilities. The clearing eliminates the micro-climates
caused by the forest and provides an unobstructed view down to
the horizon. It also provides for a smooth air flow over and around
the observatory, these factors will improve the seeing, potentially
by as much as 1" to 1.5" thus having a direct impact
on the potential science of the project.
